Forgiveness/ /Consequences
This is a short writing to accompany my artwork, Forgiveness//Consequences, painted in 2018 as a part of a small collection of monochromatic paintings and photos. Hope you enjoy.
Marks of past failures like black paint on a canvas.
I try to wipe it away, but now it’s just more of a mess, and I remember what I’ve done again, and my hands are dirty.
I’ve been forgiven, but I still feel the weight. The gap that’s left.

Forgiveness//Consequences - 2018 - Durgan Maxey
24”x30” acrylic
handmade, minimalist frame
The consequences of action or inaction in life play out even if there’s forgiveness for the hurt. If we can’t admit that, we may find ourselves in confusion about the cracked relationships and community around us.
Pursuit of reconciliation and shalom is an intentional, loving work that can go beyond a lifetime.
