my late identities
This is a short writing to accompany my artwork, my late identities, painted in 2018 as a part of a small collection of monochromatic paintings and photos. Hope you enjoy.
I literally shot the painting, the identity-boxes I made for myself.
Opinion gods, designed by me and the culture around me. Black and white and controlled. Clean edges, Babylon borders.

my late identities - 2018 - Durgan Maxey
30”x24”
acrylic painting with bullet holes
handmade, minimalist frame
Grace was given to reveal these boxes, cages around me.
To kill the old me and change the formations through mind-renewal, practice.
Bullet holes through the mold I was pressing into, a pattern of the world.
It’s not over, the fight for myself is still on. More boxes want to conform me. New boxes and old boxes, doesn’t matter.
Press on to transformation, and see the Holy Spirit at work. The old dead identities become planter boxes to let His Spirit-fruit overflow.
